Youth Program

The Youth Program at the Saint Nicholas National Shrine is designed to engage the next generation in faith formation, leadership development, and cultural identity. Centered at the Shrine’s unique location at Ground Zero, the initiative connects young people to the spiritual legacy of Saint Nicholas while encouraging them to live out values of compassion, service, and hope. By combining worship, education, fellowship, and cultural learning, the program seeks to deepen young people’s understanding of Orthodox Christianity and Hellenic heritage while helping them find a sense of purpose and belonging within the Church and the broader community.

A core component of the program is faith formation and spiritual engagement. Through faith dialogues with clergy and mentors, and introductory workshops on Orthodox spirituality, participants are invited to explore the traditions, theology, and symbolism of the Orthodox faith in ways that are meaningful to their lives. These gatherings create opportunities for young people to actively participate in worship through chanting, readings, and service roles, while also engaging in thoughtful discussions about faith, vocation, and moral leadership in the modern world.

The program also emphasizes service, leadership development, and community building. Initiatives such as partnerships with the Shrine’s outreach programs, including service opportunities for those experiencing homelessness, allow youth and young adults to live out the Church’s call to charity and compassion. Together, these initiatives cultivate a generation of young leaders who are spiritually grounded, culturally aware, and committed to serving their communities with empathy and responsibility.
