The Mission to the Africa Diaspora in the Americas, West Indies and Caribbean

In 1907, Fr Raphael traveled to Constantinople, where he was ordained by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to serve as a “Apostle to the Americans of African descent.” His ministry marked a historic intersection of Ancient Christianity and the black experience, laying the groundwork for a Pan-African Orthodox identity that spanned from the United States to the West Indies, and Caribbean. While Fr Raphael Morgan is the central figure, the mission often faced significant headwinds due to the social climate of the early 20th century. This mission seeks to bridge the cultural experience and the contemporary growth of black Americans, West Indies, and Caribbean Orthodox communities today, ensuring his pioneering Apostolic spirit is recognized as the root of the movement.
