Philoptochos

The St. Nicholas community is dedicated to Christ’s call to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength; and to love our neighbors as ourselves. The Ladies Philoptochos society actualizes Christ’s call through our commitment to perform good works of hope and charity for the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the handicapped, the widowed, the victims of disasters and for all those in need.

On 9/11 the original St. Nicholas church building was destroyed. The heart and soul of the parish, however, rose from the ashes as love overcame the hate, death and destruction of that day. The Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. Nicholas has now been reconstituted to continue the charitable, benevolent and philanthropic work of the generations of faithful women who came before us. Their pious voices and example continue to inspire us today.

Our beloved Shrine is dedicated to St. Nicholas. His life and miracles are depicted through the sacred iconography in the church. The scenes depict many of St. Nicholas’ acts of charity. The faithful at the Shrine, and in particular the Ladies Philoptochos Society, view these icons not only as sacred art but as instructions on how to serve the poor and our neighbors in need. The icons compel us to love God and our neighbors and to perform our charitable work with discretion, courtesy and kindness.

We are so happy to once again be an active chapter of The National and Direct Archdiocesan District Ladies Philoptochos Society. We welcome all women to become a part of this important ministry. Please join us as members of the St. Nicholas Philoptochos Chapter so that together, united in faith and fellowship, we may serve as beacons of hope and reach out to those in need through acts of love, charity and philanthropy.
