About the Commemoration
The Annual 9/11 Interfaith Prayer Service at the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine is a solemn gathering of faith leaders, first responders, families of victims, survivors, public officials, and members of the broader community who come together in prayer and remembrance on the anniversary of September 11. As part of the official 9/11 Commemoration, the service honors the lives lost, pays tribute to the courage and sacrifice of first responders, and offers prayers for peace, healing, and unity among all people.
A House of Prayer For All People
Held at the only house of worship destroyed on September 11 and rebuilt at the World Trade Center, the interfaith service reflects the National Shrine’s sacred mission as a House of Prayer for all people. Representatives from diverse religious traditions join together in a spirit of compassion and solidarity, affirming the enduring power of faith, hope, and human dignity in the face of tragedy.
